ExxonMobil and Sabic will move forward with construction of a $10 billion USD chemical facility and ethane steam cracker in the San Patricio County of Texas.
This joint-venture is referred to as Gulf Coast Growth Ventures, and received its final environmental regulatory approval this month to commence building an ethane steam cracker, two polyethylene units and a monoethylene glycol unit. Construction will begin in the third quarter of 2019, with completion estimated by 2022. The facility will produce materials used to manufacture various consumer products including automotive coolants, packaging, agricultural film and building, construction materials and clothing.
Four primary engineering, procurement and construction companies will lead the construction: The Wood Group, McDermott & Turner Industries Group, Chiyoda & Kiewit and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries & Zachry Group.
