SBM Offshore, a provider of floating production and mooring systems (FPSO) for the oil & gas industry, has developed an artificial intelligence (AI)-based mooring tool that autonomously detects possible mooring line failures.
The Intelligent Agent Mooring Line Integrity Tool recently received new technology qualification (NTQ) from the classification society, American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). It was developed to detect potential failures in moorings. Moorings are lines that anchor floating structures, such as oil and gas rigs to the seafloor. Factors such as wind speed, FPSO heading, and GPS information, are collected and combined with machine learning to offer asset owners real-time feedback about mooring system integrity. The system enables companies to avoid having to undergo standard mooring tension monitoring efforts and can easily be integrated into existing offshore systems.
