Six major petrochemical companies have established a consortium to investigate how gas steam crackers could be operated using renewable electricity, instead of fossil fuels.

Project CO2MENT will demonstrate and evaluate Inventys’ CO2 Capture System and a selection of LafargeHolcim’s carbon utilization technologies at its Richmond, British Columbia, Canada cement plant over the next four years.

Guangdong Carbon Capture Testing Platform Project (GCCT), is the first multi-technology international carbon capture technology testing platform in Asia, designed and constructed GEDI.The opening of the facility marks a new stage of carbon capture technology research in Guangdong, which is of milestone for China in promoting carbon dioxide emission reduction and handling climate change. The project consists of a flue gas pre-treatment system, amine absorption and membrane separation carbon capture system, compression and purification system and several auxiliary systems.

U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-Tex.) recently introduced legislation that would require the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to establish a research, development and implementation program for carbon capture technologies at natural gas-fired power plants.The bill aims to create a partnership with the private sector for demonstration project and accelerate development and commercial application of natural gas carbon capture technologies. “The US leads the world in emissions reduction, but to build on that success, we need to incentivize innovation and partner with the private sector to create affordable solutions,” Cornyn said in a press release.
