How Should You Mitigate These Hose Hazards?

Hoses can be a significant hazard in processing plants, industrial facilities, and in hydraulic applications. They must be properly maintained, stored, and inspected to mitigate the risk of operator injury. Here are 5 hose hazards to look for if operating a hose in an various industrial sectors:

Whipping hose – Hose whipping occurs when a pressurized hose breaks free from its fitting or connection point and whips around violently. This can cause damage to nearby equipment or injury to operators.

Cross contamination – The use of dirty hoses can cause contamination of process equipment, product contamination and dangerous chemical reactions.
Corrosion – Corrosion of metal hoses can lead to leaks and emittance of toxic gases and chemicals.
Blocked hoses – Hoses blocked with a solid martial can become pressurized and burst sending the solid material into the environment.
Injection injuries – A high-pressure injection injury is an injury caused by high-pressure injection of oil, grease, diesel fuel, gasoline, solvents, water, or even air, into the body. This injury can be cause by a rupture in a hydraulic hose.
