Reducing emissions with an electric actuator

The hydrocarbon market is experiencing electrification and Mokveld is part of that with electric actuated valves. 
At present, the energy for actuators of critical or severe service control valves and on/off valves is mainly from the air supply. Actually, in many cases, natural gas is still used as a supply fluid in remote locations.
Because of sustainability and the carbon footprint, natural gas as a supply fluid should be reconsidered. Often both the valve/actuator and the control unit (e.g. pressure controller) cause fugitive emissions to the atmosphere. Not taking the stem seal into account, this could easily add up to 15.000 Nm3/year which is a CO2 equivalent of 1.500 tons per year per valve.
Where the availability of electric power cannot be guaranteed, low power electric actuated valves may be a very good solution. Direct Current low power actuators may be connected to the UPS of the plant. In some cases, the valves may be connected to generators that are started up when the main power fails.
Mokveld axial flow pressure balanced valves require very low forces to move and may therefore be equipped with low power electric actuators.
