US DOT Offers $60 Million for Pipeline Safety Programs

The US Department of Transportation (DOT) has announced USD $60 million in funding for state pipeline and underground natural gas storage safety programs. The DOT’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) is awarding the funds through formula grants. These Pipeline Safety State Base Grants will reimburse up to 80% of a state’s annual operating costs.

“PHMSA’s state partners are a critical ally towards advancing the safety of our nation’s energy infrastructure,” said PHMSA Administrator Skip Elliott. PHMSA-certified state pipeline safety programs currently inspect more than 80% of America’s 2.8 million miles of gas and liquid pipelines.
