Proposed amendments to 40 CFR Part 63, Subpart MM (National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants for Chemical Recovery Combustion Sources at Kraft, Soda, Sulfite, and Stand-Alone Semichemical Pulp Mills) were published in the Federal Register on October 31, 2019.The proposed amendments to 40 CFR Part 63, Subpart MM are intended to accomplish the following:Add the method for setting the minimum operating limit for scrubber liquor flowrate, which was omitted in the October 11, 2017 final rule.Clarify that an operating parameter limit for Automatic Voltage Control (AVC) is not required.Address the method for setting the minimum operating limit for fan amperage.ALL4 's Technical Manager, Lindsey Koos discusses the amendments in depth in her blog here: http://bit.ly/2vED8jb ALL4 is a US-based environmental consulting firm.
Alcoa’s WA Operations Win Sustainability Certification
Alcoa Corporation, a global leader in bauxite, alumina and aluminum, announced that its portfolio of bauxite mines and alumina refineries in Western Australia have received certification from the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI).ASI’s Performance Standard certification process requires a comprehensive, third-party audit, which was completed successfully at the Huntly and Willowdale bauxite mines and the Kwinana, Pinjarra, and Wagerup alumina refineries.ASI is a global sustainability certification program for the aluminum industry, representing both upstream producers and downstream manufacturers, with participation from a broad spectrum of civil society organizations.“This recognition validates the strong commitment we have to responsible and sustainable production and to working with our stakeholders to deliver long-term value,” said Michelle O’Neill, Alcoa’s Executive Vice President and Chief External Affairs Officer.
